All ETH doctoral students are required to contribute to their department's teaching activities and thereby develop their own teaching skills.
Building basic teaching and learning competencies early in the doctorate makes preparing for and carrying out teaching duties easier and more enjoyable.
This workshop will introduce you to teaching and the role of teaching assistants at ETH. You will learn how to:
- create an effective learning environment
- actively engage students
- design a well-structured lesson plan
- feel more comfortable in front of a class.
This workshop helps you start your teaching journey with confidence and clarity!

A teaching portfolio is a key component of faculty job applications. It presents your teaching accomplishments, philosophy, and impact—supported by evidence and reflection.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to develop a strong teaching statement and begin assembling a portfolio that effectively showcases your teaching experience.
The workshop is intended for teaching assistants who want to build a teaching portfolio for faculty job applications and reflect on their teaching development. No prior experience with teaching portfolios is required.
